Weeks 13&14- 2.4: “Birdhouse for Rent” and 2.5: “Tell Me Tree”

News & Calendar:

  • Next week is a 2-day week, with Tuesday an early-out day because of the Thanksgiving break. Continue to read at least 5 days a week, even during the break!
  • There will be no spelling test the week of Thanksgiving since it is such a short school week, but we will be reviewing in class words with /s/, /j/, as well as studying words with one of 2 more ways to spell long /e/: _y and _ie_.

Monday– “Copy 3x”= copy the words you missed on the pretest 3 times
TuesdayWednesday, your choice:

“Triple Color Words”= write words in pencil, then trace over top using 3 different colors
5 Sentences”= write 5 Sentences with at least 1 spelling word in each sentence, OR
“Snap-Clap”= spell the word out loud while clapping for the consonants, & snapping for the vowels

Common Core Standards we are focusing on that match this week’s objectives:

RL 2.1:    Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.

RL 2.5:    Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.

Mystery Question!

Your student will receive a Skyhawk HERO Ticket if he or she can answer the “Mystery Question” in his or her planner or on a piece of paper sometime before Friday:

 How many words can you think of that have the long /e/ sound at the end that are spelled with a “y,” like the word “happy?”   List at least 3.
