Calendar & Objectives for the last 3 weeks of School!

Monday May 14th Reading minutes due for the last time this year!
Tuesday May 15th FIELD TRIP from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Friday May 18th Last day to turn in any math homework for this year!  ALL LIBRARY BOOKS DUE!!
Monday May 21st Roof Picture @ 9 a.m.  Don’t be late or you won’t be in the picture!
Tuesday May 22nd 2nd Grade’s turn for “Win-it-in-a-Minute” from 9-9:45 a.m.  CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who earned it from our class!  If you would like to help during Win-it-in-a-Minute, let me know!
Wednesday May 23rd Read-a-thon!  You may bring 1 snack or treat for yourself and 1 pillow.
Thursday May 24th 2nd Grade Performances including our class play from 10:15-11 a.m.!

We will also have our last “Class Store” that afternoon.  If you have any items or treats that you would like to donate to the store bring to school before Thursday.

Friday May 25th Teacher Work Day (no school for students)
Monday May 28th NO SCHOOL for Memorial Day
Tuesday May 29th “Just Dance” A.R. Party during lunch!

(By invitation only; you must reach your AR goal OR be in the top 10 to attend!)

Wednesday May 30th Field Day!  2nd grade is in the afternoon from 12:20-3 p.m.  If you would like to help with Field Day please let me know!  We need 2-4 adult helpers.
Friday June 1st  LAST DAY of school!  No backpacks.

 

Phonics & Fluency
Students will be able to:

Review: Blend, read, and write words with all phonics taught in Unit 6.

Word structure: Review plurals; compound words; prefixes dis- and un-; irregular plurals; suffixes -er, -ness, -ly, -y, homophones, and word families.

Read & retell decodable story #50: “Communities in Los Angeles.”

 

Reading & Responding
Students will be able to:

Read & comprehend 2 poetry selections: “America’s People” and “Statue of Liberty.”

 

Language Arts
Students will be able to:

Writing Process:  We will use the writing process to finish any unfinished writing projects from this term.  Learn to revise sentences to make precise word choices, so that your words can better paint pictures in reader’s minds.

Penmanship: Learn & practice 2 new cursive uppercase letters.

Grammar, Usage & Mechanics: Review importance of capitalizing letters, adding commas, and adding appropriate end marks.

We will also practice & memorize our parts for the class play, “Tops & Bottoms!”

 

Spelling

NO MORE SPELLING WORDS or HOMEWORK UNTIL 3rd GRADE!  :)

 

Math

Continually review math concepts from our 2nd grade year.

 

Mystery Question

Your student will receive a nickel of class money if he or she writes the answer to the “Mystery Question” in the planner & brings it to me sometime before Friday.
