- I am trying something new this week: I will have the students take their spelling test on Thursday and their pretest for the new words on Fridays so that you can have a full week to practice instead of just 4 days. So this week’s spelling test will be on Thursday (it works out well since this week is review of long /a/ and long /e/.) That will also make it so that you can focus on practicing Chinese vocabulary on Thursday night instead of having to study both lists.

… read and comprehend this week’s selection, “Hungry Hoppers;” focusing on the comprehension skill “Cause and Effect.”
… learn and use these new vocabulary words: nature, fussy, dull, sensing, antennae, cycle
… capitalize proper nouns, titles, and initials.
… read and retell the decodable story #20: “Meet the Bats.”
… read and practice this week’s poem: “The Grasshopper” by Conrad Aiken.
… review Quarter 1 ELA concepts for our Posttest this week, including capitalization, writing an informational piece with facts, using adjectives, and using a glossary.

Reading Informational Text:

Spelling HOMEWORK for this week:
Monday– “Copy 3x”= copy the words you missed on the pretest 3 times
Tuesday– “ABC Order”= list the spelling words in ABC order OR “Syllables”= sort your words by how many syllables are in the words. For words that have more than one, place a large dot or slash in between each syllable, such as “ba/sic”
Wednesday– “Quiz”= have a partner quiz you on the words
Thursday- Test!
