- We take our Midyear DIBELS “Oral Reading Fluency” test this week! The midyear goal for 2nd grade is 72 words in 1 minute, plus being able to retell details about the story.
- The Taylorsville Mayor is visiting our 2nd grade classes this Wednesday since we are studying “City Hall” and communities. Thank you to Miss Brown for arranging it for us!
- January Scholastic Book Orders are due on Thursday, January 15th at midnight. Click here to order online.
- Our Box Top contest is going on this month! Turn them in to your homeroom teacher’s bucket. The class from our school that collects the most will earn a Pizza Party!!
- Thursday, January 15th is a short day, and Friday there is no school since it is a teacher-work day for end-of-term.

Reading Informational Text:
- I can describe key details in an informational text using the questions who, what, when, where, why and how.
- I can use context clues to determine the meaning of vocabulary relevant to my grade level.
- I can use captions to locate key facts of information in a text.
- I can identify ideas that support the author’s main message through gathering information and drawing conclusions.
- I can comprehend informational text by summarizing and asking/answering questions while I read.
Reading Foundational Skills:
- I can identify long /u/ sounds made by vowel teams.
- I can read long /u/ vowel sounds in one and two-syllable words, both in isolation and in text.

Spelling HOMEWORK for this week:
Monday– “Copy 3x”= copy the words you missed on the pretest 3 times
Tuesday-Wednesday– Choose any two:
“ABC Order”= list the spelling words in ABC order
“Syllables”= sort your words by how many syllables are in the words. For words that have more than one, place a large dot or slash in between each syllable, such as “ba/sic”
“Quiz”= have a partner quiz you on the words
Thursday– Test!
